Crown Ridge Tiger Sanctuary Internships
Crown Ridge Tiger Sanctuary is a USDA approved big cat rescue funded through a 501(c)3 Foundation. Our mission is to provide a permanent home for exotic cats that have endured neglect, abuse, or other undesirable homes. We strive to provide these cats with a healthy lifestyle by providing the best vet care, diets, and enrichment activities possible. We also educate people on the importance of habitat conservation and wildlife preservation, and we stress the endangerments these cats face not only in the wild but also in captivity. We encourage teachers and students to participate in our “Living Classroom" program as well.
We currently have on display a family of 5 tigers and 1 lion who range from 2 to 18 years old. Their outdoor enclosures are enclosed on a hillside which allows them plenty of room to run, swim in their pools, and rest on their various platforms. Crown Ridge is pleased to announce that we are taking applications for interns this summer. Interns are not only a huge help with the day-to-day tasks, but they bring their experience and fresh point of view to the sanctuary.
Program Overview
Crown Ridge is offering 2 internships where students will gain valuable knowledge and working experience with tigers and lions which can be later used to further one’s career in the animal field. The start and end dates are flexible, depending on the interns schedule. Our internships are non-paid but students can receive credit in some cases. We do not offer housing to interns but can accommodate a flexible schedule. Work hours are generally from 8am to 4pm, 4 days a week. Interns will be evaluated monthly and will be required to write a summary of their experiences here at the sanctuary.
Intern Duties
Interns will participate in the daily care and management of tigers and lions which includes but is not limited to: diet preparation, exhibit maintenance, enclosure cleaning, feeding, operant conditioning, and behavioral enrichment. Grounds maintenance is needed and includes general clean-up and landscaping. Students will also learn about the operation of a non-profit sanctuary, fundraising, and USDA regulations. Interns will give tours to the general public and participate in group education. Interns are heavily involved in guest relations and programs. This is a great opportunity for students to get hands on animal care experience while learning about the importance of conservation work.
Intern schedules are flexible but will be needed to work weekends, as this is when we are the busiest with tours. Applicants must be hardworking, focused, dedicated, and able to work independently or in a team environment. The work is physical and primarily performed outdoors in all types of weather. Good health is required.
