Thor and Gracie are special sisters who have lived together all of their lives. Even though tigers are generally solitary animals these two will probably always remain together because of their unique situation. Both sisters came to our sanctuary very malnourished. Thor, the protective sibling, had been giving the small amount of food she was being fed to her visually impaired sister, Gracie. It took about 4 month for us to train Thor to eat everyday only for herself and about 7 months to really put some substantial weight on her.
Thor is the slender athlete of our bunch. She stays in top shape by romping around the enclosure and utilizing all of the enrichment tools she is given. This extremely quick and agile cat loves to push a ball down her hillside enclosure and beat it to the bottom. She is very inquisitive and watches every move you make. Nothing gets by Thor! Visitors can always identify her because of her unique heart shaped stripe of her left hip and she is always the first to come and say “hello” when you come to visit. Tigers do not purr. They make a chuffing sound as a sign of affection. We are happy to see her enjoying the sanctuary and living a healthy life with her family.
